Detoxification involves following a specific diet or using special products that rid your body of toxins, thus improving your health and promoting weight loss. Toxins are known to build up in the body over time and can be very damaging to the nervous system. Toxins can come from many things such as processed foods, air pollution, prescription drugs, illicit drugs, caffeine, alcohol, etc. Most detox periods last one to two weeks and follow a specific protocol or set of rules. Most detox periods last 1-2 weeks and follow a specific protocol or set of rules. However, you can “hack” this process by following a few simple rules.
The first step to detoxifying your body is to make sure you are not overloading it with toxins. There are a few simple changes you can make today to quickly put your body in a detox mindset.
Get plenty of sleep
“Getting a good night’s sleep is one of the best ways to detoxify your body and recover,” says Asay. “Sleep has been associated with weight loss, reduced cortisol and stress levels, and better overall health.” The best thing about sleep is that it requires absolutely no effort – just make sure your room temperature is cool and let yourself go for 10 hours to fall asleep.
Sleep is linked to weight loss, reduced cortisol and stress levels, and improved overall health. Sleep allows your brain to reorganize and recharge, as well as eliminate toxic waste that has accumulated during the day.
Drink a large glass of water right after you wake up
just before going to bed. And throughout the day. “When you think about it, when we sleep, we go at least seven hours without any hydration,” says Asay. “By providing your body with hydration as soon as you wake up, it refreshes and energizes our cells.”
To make a detox water, add fruits, vegetables and herbs to the water and let it sit. By doing this, you infuse the flavored water directly from your fruit. Staying hydrated is key to your detox journey. Detox water is a better way to consume water if you have trouble drinking plain water. The more ingredients you use, the stronger the flavor. Crushing or mashing fruits and herbs can help release more of their flavors.
Take lots of stretching breaks
“Take a break once an hour, even if it’s just five minutes, to stretch and move!”. Asay encourages. “This will reduce fatigue, get your blood flowing through the muscles, and get your heart rate up, burning calories.” (Plus, a quick stretch break is probably one of the most enjoyable ways to detoxify your body, right?
Exercise aids the detoxification process by giving all of your systems a boost. When you exercise, blood circulates throughout your body, bringing nutrients to all your organs and muscles. You only need to do exercises like dancing for short periods of time during the day, for 5 minute sessions, because during the detoxification process you don’t want to overexert yourself. When we rest, our heart sends oxygen and nutrients to all parts of the body by pumping 10 liters of blood per minute.
Go for anti-bulge drinks.
Top of the list of nutritionist-approved drinks: herbal teas, mineral broths and (you guessed it) good old H2O. (You can find more ideas here.
And avoid alcohol while you’re at it
Unfortunately, that mimosa “hair of the dog” is not conducive to detoxification. “To our bodies, alcohol is a toxin, which means that when we ingest it, our bodies will work to metabolize it before all other sources of energy,” Asay explains. In other words, while your body is busy working on the alcohol, the other calories are in your food or drink.
So alcohol will dehydrate you and make you tired. If you really want to detox quickly, put your stuff away and drink more water.
But don’t deprive yourself
When your body is sent, your gut reaction can be changed at any time. But if this type of thinking can be a mistake. “No food or drink should be considered forbidden,” she says. Instead, imagine the foods you like, the ones you’d like to eat with those who would like to eat in moderation.
“Some examples of things to eat in moderation are fried foods, sugary drinks, unsatisfying snacks like candy or chips, and highly processed meats like hot dogs or bologna,” Asay says. But if 7 p.m. rolls around and you’re desperate for chocolate, don’t stress. You can still have a few pieces or chips. As long as your choices are careful, your detox will still work.
